Thailand

Epitomizing a wondrous kingdom that features wonderful Buddhist temples, spectacular islands and exotic wildlife, the Kingdom of Thailand is a constitutional monarchy with the king being the Head of State, Head of the Armed Forces and Adherent of Buddhism along with being the Upholder of religions in the country.

Earlier known as Siam till 1939, it was changed to Thailand going after the name of an ethnic group from the central plains( Thai People). However, it was again changed to Siam from 1945 to 1949, after which it was renamed back as Thailand. Locals use the phrase ‘Land of the Free’ to advertise and feel proud of the fact that Thailand is only Southeast Asian country to never be colonized by any European power. The capital and largest city of Thailand is Bangkok. It is also the country's centre of political, commercial, industrial and cultural activities. Bangkok is known in Thai as "Krung Thep Mahanakorn", or, more colloquially, "Krung Thep".
